What I love about Bloomington

I moved to Indiana from California in 2001. Not long after I lived here I discovered Bloomington. I’ll never forget that first day. It was a warm summer day on the square and people were sitting outside at the cafes eating, drinking, talking and watching the people passing by. It reminded me of my travels in Europe and the outdoor cafes in France, Italy and Greece. I was immediately smitten. They say you form your opinion of someone within the first minute or two and I feel it’s the same with a city. I was hooked right away and I’ve been hooked ever since.

Growing up in California in the San Francisco Bay Area, I had the pleasure of enjoying art, music, theatre, exquisite food, wine and a diverse cultural base, not to mention higher education, environmental focus and people who actively participate in their community. I was so pleasantly surprised to find Bloomington with so many of those same attributes and then the added bonus of considerably reduced traffic and a much lower cost of living, plus people who are really genuinely sweet. I feel so lucky to have landed in the fine city of Bloomington and proud to call it home. I learn more about it almost every day…there is so much to discover. There are festivals and fairs, such as the Lotus World Music Festival and the Fourth Street Fair, just to name a couple, that are both highly sought after venues both by artists and visitors alike. And that is just scratching the surface…there are many popular annual events here in Bloomington.

To me, Bloomington is a never ending wealth of discovery and enjoyment. And I meet people all the time who feel the same way. What might surprise you is it is not just visitors and newcomers, but long time residents as well, who still feel all warm and fuzzy about Bloomington. You probably won’t be shocked to find that Indiana University has a fierce loyalty and also has had a great deal to do with the development of Bloomington’s rich culture and diversity….and the ever growing and changing population. It is a wonderful place to live, work and explore. I love it so much that I have had two websites built, this one… move2btown.com and also bloomliving.com. Hope you enjoy it here as much as I do.
