Cautionary Tales when Choosing a Mover

Imagine your rolling pin, yes, I said rolling pin dismantled with each piece placed in a different box. I didn’t even know rolling pins could be dismantled until I opened up the box and found a piece of it with the other pieces nowhere in sight.
I could deal with that because there were only 4 pieces which I did eventually find. But then, I began to worry, what other dismantled objects was I going to find, yikes?
I was nervous and for good reason because just about everything that could be taken apart, was…the worst one was my large telescope. All in all, I gathered over 200 pieces in various boxes and that’s assuming I found them all.
Needless to say, that one never got put back together, not sure even a rocket scientist could have even figured that one out. Basically, my job on the receiving end was 1000 times magnified and definitely not what I expected or paid for. My advice based on my terrible experience is: prepare all that you can first and after very carefully researching and selecting a moving company, give very specific instructions on what you expect and how you want it done.
And definitely check references, as many as you can. I’m not even sure that I wouldn’t get a lawyer to draw up a contract to make sure that I was protected next time. Yet again another lesson learned the hard way.
