Bloomington is an active place to be all year around!

There is really no excuse not to exercise or just get out and about in Bloomington even in the winter months and especially if you are willing to broaden your horizons a little bit. Bloomington is very centrally located for one thing, if the roads aren’t covered in snow, you can get to Indianapolis, French Lick, Louisville, Cincinnati, and Brown County to name a few…all within a couple hours or so.

Bloomington is also a very active community with a vast array of health conscious individuals seeking activity in a variety of ways. Bicycling is a huge deal in Bloomington along with walking, jogging, golf, horseback riding, swimming, tennis, football, baseball, basketball, boating, water skiing, dancing, martial arts, snow skiing, soccer, bowling…you name it and the list goes on. We have walking trails, the little 500,IU sporting events, parks & recreation, school sporting events, after school sporting events, the YMCA, the Sportsplex, the roller rink, the ice rink at Bloomington South, etc…

Now, if you are willing to take a little drive, your choices will be increasing even more. The whole family can take an hour drive to French Lick and go to the Big Splash Adventure Indoor Water Park and resort. Though it is a little cheesy, it’s great fun for families and kids…get there early on the day of arrival because in many cases they will give you passes to the Water Park for the day you arrive and the following day when you leave. The added bonus for me personally is the large hot tub in the corner of the water park encompassed with a chain link fence and a sign “Adults Only”. So, if you want to kick back in the hot tub sipping your nice cool drink (in a Styrofoam cup) while watching your kids have an absolute blast…then go for it. And after you’ve relaxed in the hot tub, take the kids and get on some rafts and float around the moving moat.

Then, if you suddenly switch gears and decide you’re in the mood to do some horseback riding, that is offered close by as well as snow skiing, Paoli Peeks is just this side of French Lick and it’s available sometimes for night skiing…too cool!
